The Admissions Office for the Toronto Film School at Yorkville University is dedicated to providing support in navigating the admissions process. In keeping with Yorkville University’s core value of providing individual attention to students, prospective students going through this process can expect to receive personalized assistance.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To become a Student at Toronto Film School:

  • You must have an Ontario secondary school diploma (Grade 12) or its equivalent.
  • You may be asked to take a mature student test, if you are over 18 and not enrolling directly from secondary school.
  • You must meet the program specific requirements.

FILM PRODUCTION

So you want to be a filmmaker? We want to hear your thoughts about film and storytelling.

Storyboard: Dream up any film idea and develop a storyboard. You may also include dialogue and direction. Don’t worry about your drawing skills, you can use storyboard software or stick figures. We’re looking to see your ability for putting single visual frames into a sequence that tells a story. Storyboards will be returned during the third week of classes.We are looking for an applicant’s ability to put single visual frames in an order that tells a story.

A digital copy of your storyboard can be submitted online.


WRITING FOR FILM & TV

To apply for our Writing For Film & TV Associate Diploma you will require:

A Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) from a Canadian province, territory or equivalent.

If you are over 18 years old and have not graduated from high school, you must complete a mature student test which can be administered online.  Please discuss with your Admissions Advisor.

Writing Sample

We want to read your work! Submit a portfolio of at least two creative writing pieces, including any of the following:

  • Short stories (no more than two pages)
  • Opinion articles (no more than two pages)
  • Journal entries (no more than two pages)
  • Short film/sketch scripts (no more than five pages)

Although it isn’t required, we encourage you to submit more than two portfolio samples or to supplement your portfolio with any other relevant writing samples. Please note, submitted material will not be returned.

Graduation Requirements

The requirement for graduation is completion of all courses in the chosen program with a 1.7 CGPA in the 4.3 scale or better. Electives if required, and any course with grades W or F must be retaken in order to graduate.

A student is eligible for an associate diploma after successfully completing all graduation requirements.


INTERIOR DECORATING

Starting your career in Interior Decorating is as simple as submitting a short essay.

Through a statement of interest (300 – 500 words), share your thoughts on the interior decorating industry, aspects of the industry that interest you, and your reasons for wanting to have a career in interior decorating. We will also be gauging your passion for Interior Decorating through your related hobbies, part-time jobs, and/or coursework.

Applicants are expected to present their statement of interest in a professional manner, paying attention to spelling, grammar and format.

Note: Essays will not be returned.


VIDEO GAME ANIMATION

To apply for the Video Game Animation Associate Diploma you will require:

A Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) from a Canadian province, territory or equivalent.

Personal Statement

We want to hear your thoughts on the gaming industry! Submit a short essay (300–500 words) outlining your personal and career goals in video games. We’ll be looking for your overall understanding of the video game industry and how you envision yourself building a gaming career. We encourage you to include such details about the industry as: Canadian video game production companies, skill sets of design and development teams, your ideal entry-level position after graduating, and growth trends in industry careers. Please note, your short essay will not be returned.
