Sketching 1 introduces drawing fundamentals and proportion of the fashion figure as well as technical sketches. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal style of sketching.
INTRODUCTION TO THE FASHION INDUSTRY
This course will comprehensively show the student the exciting world of fashion and its enormous potential in the job market now and in the future.
Pattern drafting 1 is an introductory course with emphasis on precision pattern making for skirts and pants. This class includes the development of blocks, measuring techniques to record the body and the dress form, and basic design manipulations.
FASHION TEXTILES & TERMINOLOGY
The Language of Fashion is predicated on the idea that the fashion business speaks its own language. As future professionals, students will learn proper language and terminology required in the Fashion Industry to effectively communicate needs and ideas with suppliers, producers and consumers, alike. The textile portion will cover fabrics, from fibre to final construction. The importance of fabric selection will be discussed, enabling designers to understand and verbalize how the end product will look, feel and function. Labelling requirements will also be covered.
In the second portion of the course, the focus will shift to classifications, silhouettes, details and techniques. Students will learn how to identify and label these design and construction elements. To complete this knowledge base, different body types will be discussed, and how to use design and construction elements to complement them.
Clothing construction 1 is an introductory class to the construction of garments. Students employ sewing skills used to construct clothing.
DESIGN & COLOUR FUNDAMENTALS
This is an introductory course that will cover the basic elements and principles of design and color theory as it applies to the fashion industry. The student will have the opportunity to practice through sketching, basic exercises and creative projects.
Pattern drafting 2 emphasizes precision pattern making skills for the upper body, including sleeves, collars and closures. Student will also explore advanced dart manipulations and details.
The students will be introduced to various digital techniques required for developing fashion and technical sketches, on the computer.
Clothing construction 2 is an intermediate class in the construction of garments. Students will improve their sewing accuracy. Students will be able to solve construction problems and will gain an understanding of different construction details and finishes.
This course will give the student the opportunity to research and discuss emerging cultural, social and political trends including colour and while understanding the importance they play in the fashion world.
COLLECTION-CONCEPT & DESIGN
This is an advanced design class. Students will incorporate skills taught in fundamental design classes to design and create a graduate garment collection.
In this exciting class, you will learn pattern drafting and sewing of stretch garments, focussing on one-way stretch tops, tank tops, pants and dresses, through cut and sew methods.
This is an advanced pattern drafting and class where students utilize the skills learned in the past terms to draft patterns of the original graduate collection.
SOCIAL MEDIA & BRANDING
The student will study social media, e-commerce and business planning.
Collection construction is an advanced sewing class where students utilize the skills learned to sew the original graduate collections from patterns created in collection drafting class.
FINAL THESIS PROJECT WITH PORTFOLIO
In this class, the student will be taught how to develop and review their line from a merchandising perspective. The final project will culminate in a well curated portfolio.
